Chappell, who died of brain cancer, and a word taken from his favorite song, "The Strawberry Roan" by Curly Fletcher.
Roan released her debut EP under in 2017 after first gaining attention in 2014. Her intended debut album was planned for release in 2018 but was indefinitely shelved. Continuing her work with Nigro, Roan started releasing music independently in 2022 and opening Olivia Rodrigo shows. She embarked on her first headline tour in February 2023, and in September she released her actual debut album after signing with and . Over six months later, in April 2024, the album entered the Billboard 200.
